This is a story of boy meets girl, but you should know upfront, this is not a love story.
Meet the boy, Tom Hansen (Gordon-Levitt), a greeting card writer who really just wanted to be an architect.
And meet the girl, Summer Finn (Deschanel), a new administrative assistant at Tom's work, who just moved from Michigan.
Let's start from the beginning. Boy meets girl. She's your average girl, but her "Summer effect" makes her the object of affection among men. Tom's not immune to the effect and as soon as her sees her, he wants her. Tom, the romantic, and Summer, the disbeliever start their 500 days together (or lack thereof...)
Summer strongly hates the idea of love, relationships or anything of the sort (life just gets in the way, after all) but after a night of karaoke, getting to know each other and booze...
And so it begins. The two become "infatuated" per se.
Summer says they're just friends, but...
Kissing in the copy room? Holding hands in IKEA? Shower sex? Come on! Friends my balls!
As the movie jumps back and forth between then and now, the two eventually hit their rocky parts.
Love takes its toll on the two...
After the break-up, then rekindle, Tom is devastated to find out Summer, the one who refuses to ever fall in love, is engaged.
From day 1 to day 500, the two have the craziest, most envious, saddening relationship. It's a movie that's bound to make you smile. The beautiful filming and the stellar soundtrack make it one of my favorite movies of all time.
